Nico Rosberg had an exceptional qualifying session;
Once again, Nico Rosberg took advantage of his rivals' various misfortunes to sign an important pole position for tomorrow's race. The German driver remains focused on his driving, however, and is wary of the ever-quickening competition.
On Sunday, Nico Rosberg will start from the front of the grid at the Russian Grand Prix. His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, once again hampered by an engine problem, will start much further back, as will Sebastian Vettel and his Ferrari, penalized by 5 places due to a gearbox change.
Is this enough to ensure a victory for Rosberg? Not so sure, according to the driver’s statements, who remains focused on his subject: “I’m staying focused on my performance, and it’s pretty great. Of course, the others were extremely unlucky today, and that will make my race a little bit easier tomorrow. But no race in F1 is easy. The competition is always there, so I need to stay focused on my goal and do my job.”
The qualifying session was nevertheless a formality for the German driver, with a perfectly balanced car: « It was an exceptional qualification for me. The car and the balance were perfect. It was really very good. »
Nico Rosberg already has a 36-point lead over Lewis Hamilton, his closest rival in the world championship, and has a new opportunity to increase this gap by the end of the weekend.
