Ferrari: Vettel’s engine would not have suffered from his crash in Russia
Ferrari is not expected to change the power unit on Sebastian Vettel's single-seater following his crash at the Russian Grand Prix.
After a tumultuous Russian Grand Prix for Sebastian Vettel, concerns arose from a possible obligation to change the engine on his car.
The contact was rather harsh, particularly for the rear of the car. But as with the last time, we can’t say anything until we’ve returned to the factory and inspected everything, had notably stated Ferrari’s sporting director, Maurizio Arrivabene, after the race.
The team, however, announced that the power unit was not damaged in the accident and that a replacement would not be necessary. However, the German’s gearbox will be changed for Barcelona, but this will not involve any penalty since the driver retired during the Russian Grand Prix. Such a change is therefore permitted by the regulations.
