Pirelli presents its tires for 2017
Pirelli chose the sumptuous setting of the Monaco Grand Prix to present the 2017 version of its future tires. Wider at the front and rear, these tires mark a return to the style of the 70s and 80s.
Called for the moment Fit4F1, the new tire that should equip Formula 1 cars starting in 2017 was presented this morning by Pirelli.
The technical features of this new tire are impressive and Pirelli has made the radical decision to significantly increase the size of its tires, as all the drivers wanted. Indeed, the front has been increased by 6 centimeters in width, going from 245 to 305 millimeters. At the rear, there are no less than 8 additional centimeters, reaching 405 millimeters compared to the previous 325.
These tires were already tested at the beginning of March by Jean-Eric Vergne on a Ferrari, on the Scuderia’s private test track at Fiorano.
With these new tires, which are much more adhesive, and combined with the various technical changes announced in the design of the vehicles, Pirelli hopes to gain up to 4 seconds per lap for the 2017 Formula 1 models.
