A new 100% Mercedes first line in Montreal
Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg will once again start from the front row at the Canadian Grand Prix. The Briton achieved a rather easy pole position ahead of Nico Rosberg, who was looking for redemption after a complicated race in Monaco.
If the pole position is a habit for Lewis Hamilton in Montreal with a fifth first place on the ground of his first Formula 1 victory, the one achieved this Saturday was not the hardest for the Briton: « It’s not really the way you want things to turn out, to secure a pole without a real battle in the last lap, but you have to take things as they come! I think there was still a bit of time to find, but I’m happy with my lap in the first outing. It’s always been a good track for me. »
The reigning world champion expects a long race tomorrow and will keep an eye on the Ferraris, which seem to have an interesting race pace: « We need to work to get back to the level we had on Friday because I no longer feel as comfortable in the car now. Moreover, the Ferraris seem strong on long stints, so we need to be attentive. »
With a small error during his second attempt, Nico Rosberg leaves his teammate in the first position on the grid. But the German is satisfied to start from the front row: « Even if I missed pole position, the front row is always a good position to start the race. Lewis was just faster on his first attempt, so I tried to push a bit more to close the gap, but I locked my wheels in the first corner, with no chance to make a second attempt. It promises to be exciting no matter what. The weather forecast is interesting for the race ».
