Official: Carlos Sainz confirmed at Toro Rosso for 2017
Carlos Sainz has extended his lease with Toro Rosso for the 2017 season. The Spanish driver, coveted by other teams after his good results this season, will therefore remain in the Red Bull fold.
Max Verstappen moved to Red Bull during the season, leaving Carlos Sainz with no other options to remain within the Austrian team’s fold than to extend his current contract with Toro Rosso.
It’s now done since the Italian team has confirmed that the Spanish driver will indeed participate in the Formula 1 World Championship in 2017 with them: « We are very happy that Carlos continues with us » said Franz Tost, Toro Rosso’s sporting director, following this announcement.
He has shown great performances since he has been with Toro Rosso, and I am convinced he can be even stronger in 2017. I am really looking forward to seeing what the next season can bring us with Carlos, who will be able to deliver very good results for us.
Coveted notably by Ferrari, Sainz will therefore complete his third season in Formula 1 with Toro Rosso. The Spaniard is currently ranked 14th in the world championship with 17 points.
