Hamilton: "I just want to concentrate on winning"

Nico Rosberg was declared at fault for the collision between the two Mercedes drivers in the last lap of the Austrian Grand Prix. Emerging victorious from this duel, Lewis Hamilton won the race, thus perfectly reestablishing himself in the world title race, only 11 points behind his rival.

The Briton does not want to create controversy following the incident with Rosberg, but he still has his version of the facts: « I would have liked to go to the inside, but he blocked that part of the track and I had to go to the outside, and I still managed to pass him, which is huge! It’s very hard to do that at this spot. I don’t go out to get involved in a collision. Today, as you saw, I was driving as wide as possible regarding the white lines, and I left a lot of space, three cars could have come on the inside. »

Hamilton prefers to focus on the positive aspects of the race and his victory, which brings him even closer to Rosberg in the championship: « Honestly, I don’t want to turn to the negative. I just want to focus on having won. On your side, you can see the moves and make your own judgment. I have my own opinion, but I prefer to keep it to myself and focus on the race. »

The double victory that Mercedes was reaching for was destroyed by this collision, as the reigning world champion laments: « The team wanted to finish in first and second place. That’s the team’s goal and also mine, and I want to be in front in this situation. But certain circumstances led us to where we are today [yesterday]. »
