Sainz takes the helm at Toro Rosso

A solid Carlos Sainz picked up a few more points for Toro Rosso, while Daniil Kvyat was once again forced to retire. The Russian has been through hell this weekend and doesn't seem to be in the mood at all since his return to Faenza.

Sainz takes the helm at Toro Rosso

On a circuit not necessarily favorable to Toro Rosso and its last year’s Ferrari engine, Carlos Sainz delivered a strong performance by securing 8th position in the race.

However, his start to the Grand Prix did not bode well: I am very happy with my race, particularly because it was not the easiest. We started from the back and managed to reach the Top 10 early in the race. Then all of a sudden, after my second pit stop under the safety car, we found ourselves almost last! We had to make a very good final stint of 35 laps on Soft tires, overtaking many cars to succeed in entering the Top 8.

A feeling of joy that is not shared by his teammate, Daniil Kvyat, who had to retire very early due to a mechanical issue: « What an unlucky weekend! We started the race from the pit lane but I could only complete one lap before having to retire due to a mechanical problem. We still need to study the car to find out the reasons. It’s painful, but that’s racing.. ». sighed the slightly disillusioned Russian.
