Great Britain: Rosberg loses 2nd place after being penalised!
At the end of the British Grand Prix, race management decided to penalize Nico Rosberg by 10 seconds following an illicit radio conversation with his engineer at the end of the race.
The validity of Nico Rosberg’s second place was subject to the decision of the race management, which had initiated an investigation regarding an illicit radio conversation between the German driver and his engineer at the end of the race, when the Mercedes was experiencing a gearbox issue.
The sanction was announced last night, and Rosberg was ultimately penalized with a 10-second addition to his race time, pushing him back to 3rd place in the Grand Prix.
« The stewards determined that the team went too far and gave instructions to the driver that are not permitted under the technical directive, and were in violation of Article 27.1 of the sporting regulations, which states that the driver must drive the car alone and unaided. » explained the FIA statement.
Max Verstappen therefore takes the second place in the race, and Nico Rosberg has only one small point ahead of Lewis Hamilton at the top of the Drivers’ World Championship standings.
However, Mercedes decided to appeal the decision.
