Mercedes, back to normal at Suzuka
As so often this season, the two Mercedes were the fastest on the first day of the new Grand Prix weekend. And as is often the case on Fridays, it was Nico Rosberg who beat Lewis Hamilton.
Consistency in performance is one of the main qualities of Mercedes and its two drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.
Author of the best times in both practice sessions of the Japanese Grand Prix, the German driver looks forward to the rest of the weekend with calm: « My day started with a lot of oversteer and we had to work to find the right balance on the car. In the afternoon, the Medium tires didn’t seem to perform as well as the Hard ones, as we saw in Malaysia. On the other hand, with the Soft tires, we demonstrated strong performance. It seems we are ahead of the Ferraris, but we need to see where we stand compared to the Red Bulls. »
A little behind his teammate, Lewis Hamilton is nonetheless satisfied with his performance and knows that the most important days of the weekend are coming: « It was really a good day, no issues with the car, which is really great. We managed to do a lot of laps today but we still have quite a bit of work to find the right pace. » concluded the enthusiastic Briton.
