Alonso confirms his motivation and desire to stay in F1

On the sidelines of the Chinese Grand Prix, with the first free practice sessions taking place tomorrow morning, Fernando Alonso was questioned about his possible demotivation and his intention to end his presence in Formula 1, as has been suggested in the media in recent days.

The Spaniard was keen to set the record straight and clarify that he was still 100% committed to the McLaren and Honda project: “I prefer being here rather than at the supermarket in my town,” he quipped in his usual style.

He is thus responding to the statements made by his friend and former Formula 1 teammate, Mark Webber, who had declared to the press that he would not be surprised to see the two-time world champion retire from the sport before the end of the season.

« Each time a former driver is interviewed, they talk to him about Alonso, about his situation, about how difficult it is… everyone reacts as if they were close to me, as if I were in depression. That is not the case at all, » adds the former Ferrari driver.

The Spaniard remains invested in the McLaren-Honda project and intends to honor both his contract and his commitment: « In Formula 1, I give my best. I am better prepared than ever. I am fully committed. The team is not very competitive at the moment. And there’s nothing we can do overnight. »

« At the same time, the team expects great performances from me, as we did in Australia where everyone expected us to finish last » further explains the McLaren driver, who remains popular in the Middle Kingdom regardless.
