Renault: Sirotkin to take part in FP1 in Sochi
Renault has announced that its test driver, Russian Sergey Sirotkin, will take part in the first free practice session of the Russian Grand Prix.
Just like in 2016, Sergey Sirotkin will have the chance to drive in front of his home crowd during the Russian Grand Prix. Indeed, the test driver for the Renault team will take part in the first free practice session this Friday, in place of Nico Hülkenberg.
The Russian will therefore have another chance to shine in front of his audience: « I am proud to be a Russian driver. Performing in front of thousands of Russian fans will always be a great moment. That said, I would be happy just to be in the car anywhere! There will of course be a lot of media attention and the presence of many acquaintances. It’s always nice, but I’ll be fully focused on the track. I’m here to do the best job possible and focus on the entire weekend, not just when I’m in the cockpit for FP1. »
Last year, Sirotkin impressed everyone but still failed to secure a spot as a main driver for 2017. However, the Russian’s goal remains the same: This season, I have so far discovered that it is not very easy to be on a circuit without being in the car. Watching the other drivers on track is quite frustrating; I also want to be there. I am learning a lot with the team, and it is a positive and rewarding process, but simply not as much as competing, concludes the Russian.
