Honda engine upgrades planned for Austria
Engine manufacturer Honda is set to bring the number 3 specification of its hybrid power unit to the next Grand Prix, in Austria, just as McLaren opened up its championship points tally in the last race thanks to Fernando Alonso.
Despite everything, Honda continues to work relentlessly on its much-criticized 2017 power unit by McLaren and its drivers.
If Fernando Alonso managed to score the team’s first points of the year in Baku, the power deficit of the Japanese hybrid block was once again noted by the drivers: « We were faster than the Saubers but couldn’t do anything against them in the straights. With the power deficit we have, the team really deserves to have scored its first points after a very difficult period for us. But we still have a lot of work to do, we are very far behind. » Stoffel Vandoorne notably stated after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Rumors of a separation between McLaren and its engine supplier are becoming more and more persistent. However, this does not stop Honda from continuing to develop its engine with this third specification planned in Austria: “We will continue our development with our best efforts in order to keep reducing the gap,” declares Yusuke Hasegawa, the director of Honda.
