Nico Rosberg joins Robert Kubica’s management team

The contrast could not be greater between Nico Rosberg and Robert Kubica. The German decided to leave F1 as soon as he secured his first world title. In contrast, the Polish driver is actively trying to make his return to the discipline he was sidelined from due to a violent rally accident in the winter of 2011.

Nico Rosberg announced today that he will now help his childhood friend achieve his dream by joining the management team of the former Renault driver.

Several milestones were reached this year with the execution of three test days within Renault. It even went as far as participating in the Budapest tests with a 2017 single-seater. However, at Spa-Francorchamps, Cyril Abiteboul indicated that there were still question marks before formalizing a return to competition.

The prospect of the French team’s involvement has been definitively extinguished after the announcement of Carlos Sainz as Nico Hülkenberg’s teammate in 2018. The only viable option for next season now seems to be that of Williams, who is looking for an experienced driver to partner with Lance Stroll.

Felipe Massa could therefore give up his seat, a year after being pushed out and then recalled at the last moment following Nico Rosberg’s retirement, which allowed Valtteri Bottas to join Mercedes. It would be ironic if the German driver now contributed to his definitive retirement by managing to bring back Robert Kubica.
